MANAHAWKIN – An investigation arrested and charged two Manahawkin contractors for failing to perform contracted work on homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy, announced Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
The couple, 44-year old Adam Nevius and 50-year old Kimberly Atkinson, was arrested and charged with Failure to Make Required Disposition. Atkinson was also charged with one count of Theft by Deception, for her material misrepresentation in the mortgage application that she submitted for the purchase of their Manahawkin home.
Nevius and Atkinson owned and operated Coastal Restorations & Construction of N.J., LLC. Authorities allege that Nevius entered into contracts with at least 17 homeowners and 2 sub-contractors for repairs on their homes, most damaged by Super Storm Sandy, between 2014 and 2017.
Coastal Restoration received nearly $700,000 for these contracted repairs; however, the company did little or no work on these homes. Nevius and Atkinson allegedly used the funds for purposes other than which they were intended.
The investigation was conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crimes Unit with assistance from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Ocean County Department of Consumer Affairs, Stafford Township Police Department, Ship Bottom Police Department, Long Beach Police Department, and Surf City Heights Police Department.
