Woman Hospitalized After Apartment Fire

  LAKEWOOD – A woman is suffering with serious burns over most of her body after her apartment building caught fire in the early morning hours of October 21.

  According to police, the fire alarm went off at the Peter Ward Apartment building around 2 a.m. There were victims found inside the building on the second floor. The one victim, a 58-year-old woman, was found having second and third-degree burns on 80 percent of her body.

  The Lakewood Fire Department officials said the fire was contained to the one apartment building, and Firefighters from Engine 5 rescued the victims.

  Majority of the residents are senior citizens and disabled tenants. Officials said they were all safely evacuated with no other injuries being reported.

  Both of the victims from the fire were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment and remained in serious condition.

  Currently, the cause of the blaze is unknown and is still under investigation.
