Wife Of Former Mayor Dies In Crash

HOLMDEL – An investigation by State Police concerning a car crash that caused the death of the wife of a former Woodbridge Township Mayor is continuing.

Margaret Cerria, 84, died during a Friday afternoon crash on the Garden State Parkway.

Her husband Phillip Cerria 85, was hospitalized at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune following the accident. His condition is unknown as of Sunday morning.

The former mayor served in that role from 1984 to 1987 and also served as its township clerk from 1992 to 2000.

The Cerrias had moved to Lakewood in 2005.

The crash occurred around 3:39 p.m. on January 3. State Police and emergency responders came to the scene which was in the northbound lanes on mile post 115. 

Early reports described a car having overturned in the northbound lanes of the Parkway and the crash blocked the right and center lanes at Exit 114 onto Red Hill Road according to a state-run traffic website called 511.NJ.org

Delays continued for several through the evening on the Parkway.
