OCEAN COUNTY — Lakewood police said officers made two major arrests over two days as part of ongoing enforcement efforts aimed at drug activity in the township.
The first arrest happened March 19 after officers stopped a vehicle on Martin Luther King Drive, according to police. During the investigation, officers recovered substances believed to be crack cocaine, heroin, MDMA and marijuana, along with packaging materials that investigators said suggested drug distribution.
Kyle Martin, 47, of Lakewood, was arrested and charged with several drug offenses.
A second motor vehicle stop on March 21 led to the arrest of Benjamin Grinley, 33, of Neptune, who police said was wanted on an active NCIC warrant from Delaware. During that investigation, Martin was taken into custody again after officers found additional suspected controlled dangerous substances.
A K-9 unit from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene, police said.
Both men were charged and taken to the Ocean County Jail.
“These arrests highlight the type of proactive police work our officers are doing every day,” Chief Gregory H. Meyer said. “We will continue to focus our efforts on those involved in narcotics activity and hold them accountable.”
Police said the investigations are continuing.
