VIRGINIA — A 52-year-old man from Toms River was arrested after leading Virginia State Police on a pursuit along Interstate 95 that ended with multiple police vehicles being struck.
State police said troopers were alerted shortly before noon on December 19 to a wanted individual believed to be traveling on I-95 near the Richmond area. Authorities said the individual was also the subject of concern related to his mental health.
Troopers later located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to comply, prompting a pursuit that began in Prince George County and continued south into Sussex County, police said.
During the chase, the vehicle struck several marked state police units, according to authorities. Troopers were eventually able to stop and contain the vehicle.
The driver, who was not identified, was taken into custody without further incident and transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Police said no troopers were injured.
Charges remain pending as the investigation continues, state police said.
