LITTLE EGG HARBOR — A single father of eight was the victim of a fatal crash on the Garden State Parkway over the weekend.

Early Sunday morning, 48-year old Stephen M. Chiarle of the North Cape May section of Lower Township was in a 2010 Ford Edge when he was struck from the side by a Honda CRV.

Chiarle’s vehicle was disabled on the northbound side of the Garden State Parkway near exit 58 when the incident occurred. Whether his vehicle was on the shoulder or in the lane was not specified, according to authorities.

Driving the Honda was Stephen M. Izzo from the Milmay section of Buena Vista, who sustained serious injuries in the incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, traffic on the northbound side of the GSP was redirected onto Route 9 at exit 50 for several hours.

As of Sunday, no charges had been filed.

Chiarle was a single father to eight children who had recently fallen on hard times, according to his own GoFundMe page.
