LAKEWOOD – There are times when drivers are in traffic and would like to slide over to unused sidewalks to escape but those thoughts are usually not entertained, but in the case of a township bus driver however, that wasn’t the case.

Thanks to social media and smart phone cameras that seem to be on the ready for everyone to use at a moment’s notice, the sidewalk hopping bus was brought to the attention of township police.

The bus took to a sidewalk in an effort to get through traffic backed up on  Williams Street yesterday afternoon.

Lakewood Police Officer Alex Guzman who serves on the department’s Traffic Safety Unit discovered the identity of the driver of the occupied bus, owned by Jay’s Bus Service Inc.

Yaakov Stern, 41, is a resident of Lakewood who then received a motor vehicle summonses for driving on the sidewalk as well as reckless driving.

His court appearance is scheduled for later in December.
