
LAKEWOOOD – Township police are investigating a violent road rage incident that left a driver injured after a brief traffic stop escalated into an assault Sunday afternoon.
Officers were called at about 1:20 p.m. to the intersection of First Street and Clifton Avenue for reports of a fight. According to police, the victim told Officer Townsend that he had stopped to allow pedestrians to cross when his vehicle was rear-ended.
When the driver got out to speak with the other motorist, police said the encounter turned physical. The suspect allegedly grabbed the victim, threw him to the ground and dragged him along the roadway, causing injuries to the man’s ribs, neck, knees and face.
The suspect then got back into his vehicle and fled north on Clifton Avenue before officers arrived, police said.
Emergency Medical Services responded and treated the victim at the scene. The victim’s name was not released.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact Detective John Ganley at 732-363-0200, extension 8362.
