OCEAN COUNTY – When Tropical Storm Isaias left the county on Aug. 4, it left quite a mess at several Ocean County Parks which had to remain closed today (Aug. 5) as a result of the damage caused.

Ocean County Freeholder Virginia E. Haines, who serves as the chairwoman of the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation, said “we are keeping these parks closed for a portion of today to allow for necessary cleanup and for the safety of the public and the staff.”

“I would suggest residents and visitors check the Park’s Department website at oceancountyparks.org and Facebook page before visiting today,” Haines added.

The parks currently closed to the public include: Wells Mills County Park, Waretown; Ocean County Park, Lakewood, Shenandoah County Park, Lakewood; the Waretown section of the Ocean County Rail Trail; and Mill Creek County Park, Berkeley Township.

Among those still open are Berkeley Island County Park, Berkeley Township, but they do not have electricity resulting in the closure of the spray park and the bathrooms.

In addition, Beaver Dam Creek County Park in Point Pleasant is also without power and the bathrooms remain closed.

The Main Trail and Point are closed at Cattus Island County Park, Toms River Township, because of debris.
