ESSEX FELLS — A 24-year-old Ocean County man was arrested on drug-related charges after his car left the roadway and struck a tree Tuesday afternoon, Essex Fells police said.
Officers were called around 12:03 p.m. to Old Chester Road near Tothill Road for a report of a single-vehicle crash. Police said the vehicle went off the road, broke through a fence and hit a tree on the front lawn of a nearby home.
The driver, a Point Pleasant resident who was not identified, was outside the vehicle when officers arrived and did not report any injuries. During the investigation, police determined the man had an active traffic warrant issued out of Tuckerton.
After taking the driver into custody, officers searched the vehicle and found several wax folds believed to contain heroin, police said. A later search at police headquarters turned up a glass pipe hidden inside one of the man’s sneakers.
The man was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued a summons for careless driving.
He was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility and held pending a future court appearance.
