LAKEWOOD – A Township man has been arrested and charged after wrecking a local bar causing $100,000 worth of damages, police said.
Police received a report of a burglary around 10 a.m. Sunday at Maggie’s Bar located at 145 County Club Drive in Lakewood. The employee told police that an unidentified man was actively destroying furniture, equipment, and inventory.
Officers encountered a 29-year-old Lakewood man, unclothed and exhibiting signs of emotional distress, Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said. Recognizing that the man was in crisis, Sgt. John Macerino addressed the man calmly and ultimately arrested him without further incident.
The man was charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. Damages to the bar are estimated to be about $100,000, Capt. Staffordsmith said.
In lieu of being brought to the Ocean County Jail, the man was also brought to a local hospital for psychological evaluation and treatment.
