OCEAN COUNTY – The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and police departments from across the county are joining forces for “Goal: Zero,” a high-visibility traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing roadway fatalities.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced the coordinated effort alongside police chiefs from 18 municipalities and Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy. The campaign comes in response to a troubling increase in traffic fatalities statewide. As of June 19, 240 people have died on New Jersey roads in 2025 — 28 of them in Ocean County alone.
“High-visibility enforcement is about saving lives, not writing tickets,” Billhimer said. “Every patrol, every stop, and every light we activate is a step toward Goal Zero. Zero traffic deaths isn’t just a goal, it’s our shared responsibility.”
The first major traffic detail will take place Thursday, June 26, from 3 to 7 p.m., with participating departments focusing patrols along busy Jersey Shore corridors. Similar enforcement efforts will continue on the last Thursday of each month from March through September.
Goal: Zero was originally launched in 2024 by Holmdel Township Patrolman Matt Menosky and has since grown to include 36 municipalities. The campaign’s logo features a bright green color symbolizing pedestrian and school safety, paired with a black mourning band honoring those lost to traffic crashes.
Participating departments include police from Berkeley Township, Seaside Park, Seaside Heights, Toms River, Lavallette, Brick Township, Mantoloking, Bay Head, Point Pleasant Borough, Point Pleasant Beach, Stafford Township, Harvey Cedars, Long Beach Township, Beach Haven, Surf City, Barnegat Township and Manchester Township.
