LAKEWOOD – A Lakewood man was sentenced to seven years in prison for dealing fentanyl and having a gun on him, police said.

During the first 42 months of those seven years in state prison, Sherod Coleman, 35, will be ineligible for parole.

He had pleaded guilty to Possession with the Intent to Distribute Fentanyl and being a Certain Person Not to Have Weapons.

He had been arrested on Sept. 2, 2016 following a motor vehicle stop in Lakewood. He was found to have “a significant amount” of fentanyl and a handgun with a high capacity magazine.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer acknowledged Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Burke who handled the case on behalf of the State, as well as the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force, Lakewood Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for “their collective investigative assistance which brought about Coleman’s arrest, guilty pleas, and lengthy State Prison sentence.”
