FREEHOLD — A Point Pleasant Beach man employed as a teacher in Neptune Township is facing a weapons charge after authorities said a knife was discovered inside a desk at a local middle school.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced that Kevin J. Hasbrouck, 36, has been charged with one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to prosecutors, a Neptune Township police officer was called to Neptune Middle School on February 3 to investigate a report involving a possible weapon. During the inquiry, officers found a large stainless-steel knife with a black handle inside a desk drawer assigned to Hasbrouck.

The case is being handled by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Fronk.

Information regarding legal representation for Hasbrouck was not immediately available.

Authorities noted that the charge is merely an accusation and that Hasbrouck is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
