
BARNEGAT – Police, firefighters, EMS crews and hundreds of other local first responders are on the scene in Southern Ocean County, battling a massive wildfire as it burns over 1,200 acres as of 5 p.m. tonight.
According to New Jersey State Forest Fire Officials and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, mandatory evacuations are underway for those on Wells Mills Road from Bryant Road to the Garden State Parkway in Waretown. A temporary shelter is available at Waretown Methodist Church.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office said that the Garden State Parkway is closed in both directions from Exit 80 South to Exit 63 North. Drivers are urged to take alternate routes and expect delays.
