LAKEWOOD – A Camden County man faces multiple charges after police said investigations into two separate July burglaries led detectives to the same suspect.
Lakewood police charged Mashon Wilson, 35, of Pennsauken, in connection with incidents at a Cross Street residence and a school on Massachusetts Avenue.
The first investigation began July 19 after officers received a report of a suspicious person inside a Cross Street home. Police allege Wilson gave officers false identifying information.
Investigators later connected him to several thefts inside the building, police said. Wilson was charged with burglary, defiant trespassing, hindering apprehension and seven counts of theft. Authorities also determined he had an active arrest warrant.
The second investigation began after officers responded to a report of a trespasser at a Massachusetts Avenue school. Police said the person had entered the building several days earlier and stolen an undisclosed amount of cash.
Investigators identified Wilson as the same person arrested during the Cross Street investigation, resulting in additional burglary and theft charges.
“This case demonstrates the value of thorough police work and the determination of our officers to follow every lead,” Police Chief Gregory H. Meyer said. “Their efforts not only led to the arrest of a burglary suspect but also connected him to another unsolved case, resulting in additional criminal charges.”
Meyer said the department remains committed to holding people who target the community accountable.
The charges are accusations. Wilson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
