POINT PLEASANT – A 67-year-old Manasquan man has been charged following an investigation into the disappearance of multiple political signs from properties around Point Pleasant Borough, police said.
The Point Pleasant Borough Police Department received reports Sept. 8 that political signs had been taken from several properties without permission.
Following an investigation, police charged Gregory Hall, 67, of Manasquan with two counts of theft. Hall was arrested Sept. 25 at Point Pleasant Borough Police Headquarters and later released on a complaint-summons pending a future court appearance.
Authorities did not specify which candidates or political causes were represented on the signs or how many signs were allegedly taken.
Police used the case to remind residents that political disputes should not lead to damage, theft or other interference with someone else’s property.
The department said residents and visitors are free to support candidates and causes of their choice but warned that removing, damaging or destroying another person’s property could result in criminal charges.
The charges against Hall are accusations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
