TOMS RIVER – The man charged with the murder of a Manchester resident at the Surf & Stream Campground will remain in jail awaiting trial.
John T. Mullen, 50, of Seaside Heights consented to remain in jail without bail until his trial before Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan.
Mullen was charged with the Oct. 20 murder of 33-year old Thomas J. Applegate at the Surf & Stream Campground on Route 571 in Manchester. Police reported that Mullen allegedly fatally stabbed Applegate in the chest. According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, the incident was a drug deal gone bad.

Mullen is an ex-convict, also charged with robbery, heroin possession and tampering with evidence.
