OCEAN COUNTY – Due to a “bureaucratic snafu,” Ocean County wound up on a list of sanctuary sites, Freeholder John Kelly said at the April 5 meeting of the Board of Chosen Freeholders.

“We work very closely with the federal government. We are not a sanctuary county and we do not have any interest to be one,” he said.

Sanctuary sites are those which permit residence by undocumented immigrants to have them avoid deportation.

Kelly said that somehow, Ocean County wound up on a sanctuary list and they have been working to be removed from it.

“We do enforce all the laws of the land,” he said.
