The incident happened March 6, when officers with the Lakewood Police Department Street Crimes Unit were patrolling near 160 Ocean Avenue and spotted what they described as suspicious activity near the railroad tracks.

As officers moved in to investigate, the suspect took off on foot, police said. During the pursuit, he ran into the roadway and was nearly hit by a passing vehicle before officers caught him a short distance away.

Police said a search following the arrest turned up a small amount of crack cocaine, a glass pipe and a box-cutter-style knife.

The suspect was identified as Felix Fernando Sierra Fabian, of Lakewood. He was charged with possession of CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering to obtain CDS, obstruction and resisting arrest by flight.

He was released on a summons and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
