WEST TRENTON — Lieutenant Colonel David Sierotowicz assumed command of the New Jersey State Police, stepping into the role of acting superintendent and state director of emergency management at the start of the new year.
Sierotowicz brings 24 years of service to the post and now oversees 4,768 sworn troopers and civilian employees statewide. He succeeds leadership during a transition period and will serve in an interim capacity.
During his career, Sierotowicz has held senior command assignments within the State Police Operations Branch and Homeland Security Branch. His experience includes directing security and response efforts during national emergencies, large-scale civil disturbances and visits by sitting U.S. presidents.
In addition to his statewide responsibilities, Sierotowicz has been named incident commander for all New York and New Jersey matches connected to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, events expected to draw massive international crowds and heightened security demands.
Sierotowicz’s background also includes an extensive academic resume. He holds a doctorate from Seton Hall University, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and serves as a professor at several colleges and universities.
State officials said his combination of operational experience, emergency management leadership and academic expertise positions him to guide the agency through a busy year that includes global sporting events and ongoing public safety challenges.
