NEW JERSEY – Pharmacies around the state will be giving out naloxone June 18 on a first-come, first-served basis.
The giveaway is part of a pilot program approved by the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy.
People will be able to receive one dose of naloxone without a prescription, anonymously. Participating pharmacies will also be handing out information on addiction treatment and recovery.
When administered properly, naloxone works to reverse the effects of opioids such as heroin and fentanyl on the brain.
More than 3,000 persons died from overdose deaths in New Jersey last year, according to the New Jersey Department of Human Services.
