BROWNS MILLS – Deborah Heart and Lung Center was recently given a prestigious five star rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This rating lands Deborah in the top 8 percent of hospitals in the country, and one of only six in New Jersey to receive this status.

“We are honored to be a CMS 5-Star rated hospital,” said Joseph Chirichella, Deborah President and CEO. “This reinforces our recent 3-Star highest level rating on quality outcomes for cardiac surgery from the Society for Thoracic Surgeons. The staff of the Center work exceptionally hard to ensure our quality measures exceed standards, and that our patient experience is the very best. All of these contribute to Deborah’s overall superior ratings, which is important for patients when making decisions about choosing a hospital for care.

“While no single rating should determine your care decisions, the CMS rating system is the only one that is standardized across the industry and looks at hospitals equally across the nation. For this reason, it is gratifying to be recognized by the federal government as one of the best hospitals in the country.”

In determining a hospital’s rating, CMS considers over 60 factors including: mortality, safety, readmissions, patient experience, timeliness of care, effectiveness of care, and imaging efficiency.
