TINTON FALLS – A local woman was charged with organizing an online fundraiser, and then stealing more than $15,000 from it.

Nicole C. Weidelman, 46, was charged with third-degree Theft by Deception.

She allegedly contacted a longtime family friend after her son was involved in a serious car crash in Florida in November of 2022. She offered to set up an online fundraiser to assist with the medical bills. However, she transferred all of the money to her personal account.

Police said she slowly snuck the money into her account while giving the family excuses for not paying. Meanwhile, the crash victim endured more than a dozen surgeries, the loss of an arm, and more than a month in the hospital.

Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
