NEPTUNE – A family is mourning a 17-year-old boy who was found dead in his bedroom after his home caught fire.

The incident happened just before midnight, at 1821 McBride Ave. in Neptune, according to a press release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office.

Neptune Township Police, Fire, and EMS all responded to the blaze. The first responders to the scene found two residents safely evacuated but a third was inside.

Police officers and firefighters made several attempts to search the residence but the heavy fire made it very difficult. The fire was extinguished and the teenager was found in his bedroom deceased, police said.

One of the residents told police that the storm had knocked the power out. He woke up to a fire alarm and saw the teenager’s room consumed with fire.   An investigation of the fire is ongoing.
