Teen Arrested In July 4th Boardwalk Shooting

FREEHOLD – Two people were injured after a 16-year-old fired shots on the Asbury Park boardwalk July 4. The juvenile is in custody, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement Friday.

The shooting occurred 9:58 p.m. at 1st and Ocean avenues. A 55-year-old female employee of a boardwalk business sustained a non-life-threatening wound and was treated at a nearby hospital. A 25-year-old female sustained a minor wound and refused treatment at the scene.

Manalapan Township Police Officer Kyle Williams was working security for the fireworks show and arrested the teen.

The juvenile, a resident of Asbury Park, was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun.

Monmouth County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of criminals and fugitives.
