Scooter Rider Dies In Crash

WALL TOWNSHIP — Authorities are investigating a Memorial Day crash that killed a 47-year-old scooter rider in Wall Township.

The crash occurred at about 5:50 p.m. Monday, May 25, at State Route 35 and Belmar Boulevard, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.

Investigators said a woman driving a 2024 Kia Seltos was traveling south in the right lane of Route 35 when the vehicle hit a man riding a 2022 Buddy Kick 125 scooter. The scooter rider had been attempting to turn left onto Route 35, authorities said.

The impact threw the rider onto the southern portion of the roadway. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:50 p.m.

The driver remained at the scene.

The investigation is being conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and Wall Township police.
