NEPTUNE — Authorities are investigating a crash that left a 24-year-old woman dead after she was struck by a vehicle early March 5 in Neptune Township, officials said.

Police were called around 2:10 a.m. to the intersection of State Route 35 and West Lake Avenue for a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.

A preliminary investigation found that a man driving a 2013 Honda Accord was traveling south on Route 35 when the vehicle struck an adult woman who was in the roadway.

The pedestrian, later identified as Amani E. Turner of Neptune Township, was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead at 2:24 a.m., authorities said.

Officials said the driver remained at the scene following the collision.

The investigation is being conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team, and the Neptune Township Police Department.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Brian Boryszewski at 800-533-7443 or Neptune Township Police Sgt. Nicola Costagliola at 732-988-8000 ext. 438.

Authorities said no charges or summonses have been issued at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
