
MARLBORO – Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 70-year-old Totowa woman who was struck while crossing Route 9 on Saturday morning.
According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, the collision occurred around 7:33 a.m. near the intersection of Route 9 and County Route 520. Investigators said the woman, identified as Sherril Sakas, was attempting to cross from the southbound to the northbound side of the highway when she was hit by a Honda CR-V.
Sakas was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the vehicle remained at the location and cooperated with investigators.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the county’s Serious Collision Analysis Response Team, and the Marlboro Township Police Department are continuing to investigate.
