FREEHOLD — A Monmouth County Grand Jury has indicted a Tinton Falls man on five charges connected to a September shooting in Asbury Park, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.

Zion J. Langhorne, 24, faces counts including first-degree attempted murder, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to possess a weapon, and eluding.

Authorities said Asbury Park police were called to the 1200 block of Washington Avenue on September 13 around 5:04 p.m. for reports of gunfire. Investigators determined that shots were fired from a passing vehicle toward a group of people, though no one was injured.

Detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and Asbury Park Police quickly identified Langhorne as the suspected shooter. Later that day, officers attempted to pull him over, but authorities said he fled, disregarding police commands and creating a hazard as he sped away.

A coordinated fugitive search involving the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Asbury Park Police, and the Prosecutor’s Office led to Langhorne’s arrest on September 18.

Assistant Prosecutor Caitlin J. Sidley is handling the case for the county. Langhorne is represented by attorney Anthony L. Cherry of Eatontown.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
