FREEHOLD – A Union Beach man has been charged with stealing more than 100 iPhones from his employer, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Friday.

Norberto O. Matias, 35, is charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking. Prosecutors allege Matias, a business sales account manager for a telecommunications company, fraudulently ordered iPhone 15s under multiple companies’ accounts and had them shipped to his home.

An investigation by the county prosecutor’s Financial Crimes and Special Prosecutions Unit, launched after a referral from his employer, found that 123 stolen phones valued at more than $141,000 remain unrecovered.

The charges were served via summons, and Matias was released pending a first court appearance scheduled for Aug. 26 in Monmouth County Superior Court.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Michael Costanzo. Matias is represented by attorney Keith Oliver of Marlton.
