HAZLET – A store clerk at a local gas station has been arrested for selling Vape tobacco products to underage persons, police said.

On July 26, the Hazlet Police Department received a tip from a concerned parented that their child had been buying Vapes at the Shell Gas station convenience mart on State Highway 36 and Middle Road. According to police, this isn’t the first time this Shell Gas Station has sold tobacco products to those under 21.

After police looked over the surveillance footage, they watched several transactions and were able to confirm that the business was selling these products to underage persons.

As a result, police arrested Lakhwinder Singh for Selling Tobacco Products to Someone Under the Age of 21, which is a petty disorderly person’s offense. Singh was processed and released with a future court date.

This is the same business that police found selling vape products to underage persons less than a year ago.

“The penalty for this offense has not been a deterrent so far, so we will continue to look for additional ways to take stronger enforcement action,” Hazlet PD said in a statement.
