FREEHOLD – Dr. Jeffrey Huguenin, principal at Freehold’s Joseph J. Catena Elementary School, passed away Sunday, October 7.

Freehold Township school officials confirmed that Dr. Huguenin had died in a prepared statement, but did not specify how.

Huguenin was a 46-year old Howell resident and a school administrator for 15 years. Before coming to Freehold, Huguenin was principal at Conover Road Elementary School in Colts Neck.

Superintendent of Freehold Township schools Neil Dickstein stated, “We are asking that you keep the Huguenin family and our school community in your thoughts and prayers…There is no other information to share at this time.”

Members of the school and local communities are taking to social media to send thoughts and prayers to Huguenin and his family, including Catena guidance counselor Jessica Senna.

Sienna posted to Twitter: “Our hearts are very heavy and we are filled with sadness. Sending love and prayers out to Beth and his girls, and to all of us who need it. Please see or talk to someone today or any day if you need to. We have a lot of support at Catena and are here to help.”

The superintendent of Freehold Borough Public Schools, Rocco Tomazic, wrote: “All of us in the Freehold Borough Schools send our condolences the family of Dr. Huguenin to the Catena elementary school community and to our neighbor k-8 district freehold township.”
