ASBURY PARK – A doctor with offices in Asbury Park and Brooklyn was sentenced to 27 months in prison for unlawfully distributing prescriptions for anabolic steroids, announced US Attorney Craig Carpenito.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, Custis prescribed various types of anabolic steroids to two patients in 2016 and 2017. Custis admitted that he knew these prescriptions were not for the treatment of any actual medical condition, but were solely for muscle enhancement, beauty, muscle building and fitness competitions.

After a search of Custis’ home in June 2017, law enforcement discovered over four kilograms of marijuana and over 150 grams of tetrahydrocannobinal oil, which he intended to distribute. Custis also admitted that he prepared marijuana products for patients in his home kitchen.

Custis was sentenced to 27 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and fined $10,000.
