MANCHESTER — Two people were airlifted to a trauma center after a Jeep overturned in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Broadway Boulevard and Burnside Street, according to Manchester Township Police.

Officers responded to the scene on July 6 at approximately 8:38 p.m. and found a blue 2021 Jeep Cherokee lying on its passenger side with heavy damage on the front lawn of a home in the 1400 block of Broadway Boulevard. A gray 2015 Toyota Camry with significant front-end damage was also located in the intersection.

Police said the Jeep, driven by 23-year-old Briana Rodriguez of Brick, failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling south on Burnside Street and collided with the Camry, which was heading east on Broadway. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn.

Rodriguez and her passenger, 21-year-old Anthony Fernandez, also of Brick, were extricated by emergency responders and flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health’s LifeFlight helicopter. Both are currently listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Camry, 38-year-old Jun-Jun Zheng of Toms River, was uninjured.

Emergency personnel from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Ridgeway and Manchester Fire Companies, Robert Wood Johnson paramedics, Toms River EMS, and Priced Rite Towing assisted at the scene.

Police said failure to obey the stop sign by the Jeep’s driver appears to be the primary factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by Patrolman Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
