MANCHESTER – Local seniors will have an opportunity to learn how to spot and avoid common scams during an upcoming fraud-prevention seminar hosted by the Manchester Township Police Department and the Mental Health Association in New Jersey’s Senior Success Program.
The event, scheduled for January 8, will offer guidance for residents 60 and older on recognizing red flags, safeguarding personal information, and responding safely to suspicious calls, emails and in-person visits. Organizers say the session is part of a broader effort to reduce financial exploitation targeting older adults across Ocean County.
Det. Thomas C. Chant of the Manchester Township Police Department will lead the presentation. Attendees will also receive lunch, and organizers plan to distribute giveaways and hold a raffle.
The seminar will take place from noon till 2 p.m. at Somebody CARES, Inc., located at 48 Schoolhouse Road in Whiting.
Those interested in attending can register by calling Suzanne at 732-703-7706.
The program is funded in part by a grant from the Ocean County Board of Commissioners. Organizers note that demographic information will be collected from participants, but responses will be kept confidential.
