Police Nab Armed Robbery Suspect

LAKEHURST – Borough police charged a Toms River man with armed robbery at the Travel Inn and Suites

  Daniel M. Balwierczak, 23, was arrested for armed robbery after a response that began around 1:33 a.m. on June 12. Officers Christian Hernandez and Robert Schroeck arrived at the Route 70 motel for a report of an armed robbery in progress. 

  They met with the victims and learned that the suspect had fled the scene. It was discovered that the victims had been robbed by a male, later identified as Daniel M. Balwierczak. It was discovered that Balwierczak had used a pair of brass knuckles in order to intimidate the victims into turning over their belongings. 

  A cell phone, a pair of shoes, approximately $250 in currency and a car key were stolen from the victims. An investigation led to the identification of Balwierczak.

  The investigation led by Sgt. Jason Guide, resulted in probable cause to issue an arrest warrant on June 17 for Balwierczak. In addition, a court authorized search warrant was granted by an Ocean County Superior Court Judge for Balwierczak’s residence. 

  Around 8 a.m., both the arrest and search warrants were executed by members Lakehurst and Toms River Police and Balwierczak was taken into custody.

  He was charged with Robbery (1st Degree), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (3rd Degree), Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (3rd Degree), Theft (3rd Degree) and Simple Assault (Disorderly Persons). 

  Balwierczak was transported to Lakehurst Police Headquarters where he was processed and issued a warrant for the charges as per bail reform. He was later transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he was lodged, pending a mandatory court appearance with the Ocean County Superior Court.

  Assisting with this investigation were officers from the Manchester Police Department, Toms River Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.
