MANCHESTER – A five-car crash left one person injured Monday evening in Manchester Township, police said.
The crash occurred around 7:20 p.m. in the area of Route 571 and Commonwealth Boulevard. According to police, a red Ford Mustang driven by 24-year-old Sean Scott of Manchester was struck by a black Kia Sportage and a silver Mercedes-Benz CLK while attempting to make a left turn from Route 571 onto Commonwealth Boulevard.
As a result, the Kia traveled onto the property of 1991 Ridgeway Road where it hit two parked cars: a red Dodge Ram, and a silver Toyota Highlander. Both parked cars were unoccupied in the driveway, police said.
Scott reported no injuries on scene. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, 56-year-old Thomas White of Manahawkin, reported minor injury but denied medical attention on scene. The driver of the Kia, 45-year-old Yaphet Acevedo-Nunez of Toms River, was transported to Ocean Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
All involved drivers appear to have been wearing their seatbelts, police said.
The crash shut down the roadway and traffic was diverted while officers completed preliminary investigation.
Assisting at the scene were Emergency Medical Technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and Accurate Towing.
The investigation is ongoing; however, police said an improper turn is the primary contributing factor of the crash.
This crash is being investigated by Ptl. Keith Douglas of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
