TOMS RIVER – A Lakehurst woman died after hitting debris from an earlier crash on the Garden State Parkway Tuesday morning, police said.

According to New Jersey State Police, 46-year-old Elaina S. Clarke was driving south on the Parkway in a Chevrolet Equinox at about 5:30 a.m. near milepost 85.7 when she hit a wheel that was in the road from a Ford F-250 that had crashed earlier.

As a result, Clarke ran off the road and hit the back end of the Ford, which was disabled on the median and unoccupied. Police said Clarke suffered fatal injuries.
