MANCHESTER – A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed and a bicyclist injured in a crash Thursday night at the intersection of Route 37 and Commonwealth Boulevard, police said.
The Manchester Township Police Department said officers responded around 8:30 p.m. and found a gray bicycle lying in the intersection and a black 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 500 motorcycle on its side in the westbound lanes.
The motorcyclist, identified as Connor L. Nolan of Manchester Township, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Police said he had been wearing a DOT-approved helmet.
The bicyclist, Kimberly Reinschmidt, 49, of Manchester Township, suffered suspected internal injuries and lacerations to her left hand and arm. She was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition, police said.
According to a preliminary investigation, Nolan was traveling westbound on Route 37 when Reinschmidt entered the crosswalk from Commonwealth Boulevard. The motorcycle struck the front of the bicycle, causing Nolan to lose control and crash into a concrete center barrier, ejecting him from the motorcycle, police said.
The roadway was closed for several hours while emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene.
Police said disregard of a traffic signal and unsafe speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by Patrolman Conner Yatauro and Patrolman Anthony DeBalsio of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
