MANCHESTER – Students of the township’s Middle School (MTMS) Chorus will be going “A Long, Long Way From Home” and are getting ready for the experience of a lifetime.
The MTMS Chorus entered 105.7 The Hawk’s “Sing With Foreigner” contest and was chosen to perform live on stage with the legendary rock band Foreigner at the PNC Bank Arts Center on July 26.
The students will join the band during its performance of the iconic hit “I Want to Know What Love Is,” a signature song known for its powerful choir accompaniment.
This marks quite an opportunity for the students and is a tribute to their hard work, dedication and the preparation by students and Chorus Director Katie Sherman.
“I am so excited for this incredible opportunity for my students,” Sherman said. “They have worked so hard and truly have a passion for singing and performing. We cannot wait to rock out with Foreigner!”
As an added bonus, Foreigner will be donating $500 to the Manchester Township Middle School Chorus program, helping support future opportunities for student musicians. MTMS has become known for its enthusiasm, talent, and commitment to music and this opportunity gives students the chance to perform before thousands of concertgoers on one of Garden State’s biggest stages while sharing the spotlight with one of rock music’s most recognizable bands.
School District administrators congratulated Sherman and all of the members of the MTMS Chorus on their accomplishment and future presentation that will bring them up on the stage this summer and represent the township school district.
Foreigner is a British–American rock band formed in New York City in 1976. The band’s original lineup consisted of vocalist Lou Gramm, guitarist Mick Jones, drummer Dennis Elliott, keyboardist Al Greenwood, multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald and bassist Ed Gagliardi.
The band’s debut album, “Foreigner,” was released in March 1977 and achieved significant commercial success and was certified for sales of five million copies in the United States, remaining in the top 20 for a year and peaking at number 4.
The band’s music is known for its hooks, with AllMusic describing their first two albums as “a double shot of exceedingly catchy songs and slick production. Foreigner’s influence has been observed in the works of American alternative rock band Soul Asylum to English-Irish boy band One Direction.
