MANCHESTER – A detached garage that went up in flames this morning is still under investigation, police said.
Officers from the Manchester Township Police Department arrived at a home on Monroe Avenue in the Whiting section of the Township around 7:04 a.m. and discovered smoke and flames coming from the roof of a detached garage.
Police said that both the detached garage and adjacent home were unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Assisting at the scene to extinguish the fire were Manchester Fire Department, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Joint Base, Forked River Volunteer Fire Department, Lakehurst Volunteer Fire Department, Berkeley Fire and Plumsted Fire Department.
In addition, members of Manchester Township Emergency Medical Services were at the scene although no injuries were reported.
At this time, the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time but investigators cannot rule out electrical malfunctions in the garage, officials said. The fire is under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshall’s Office, and the Manchester Police Department.
