MANCHESTER — A small porch fire at a single-story home was quickly brought under control early Sunday morning after firefighters responded to reports of a possible structure fire in the Roosevelt City section of Manchester Township.
Members of the Whiting Fire Company Station 33 were dispatched at 3:46 a.m. on January 25 after smoke was reported coming from the rear of a residence. Fire officials arriving on scene found light smoke conditions and traced the source to a small fire on the rear porch and crawl space area of the dwelling.
The initial fire was largely knocked down with a fire extinguisher before additional units arrived to complete suppression efforts and check for extension. Firefighters confirmed the blaze had not spread into the interior of the home, and no damage was reported inside the residence.
A general alarm was initially transmitted, prompting a tanker task force and mutual aid units to respond. As conditions were confirmed to be under control, additional responding companies were held to staging, with only one joint-base engine remaining on scene.
No injuries were reported. Fire police assisted with scene safety and traffic control during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, with Manchester police also responding.
Personnel from the New Jersey National Guard and Manchester Emergency Medical Services were also called to the scene.
