MANCHESTER — Firefighters rescued two dogs Wednesday night after an outdoor kennel caught fire in the Roosevelt City section of the township.

Station 33 crews were dispatched about 9:40 p.m. on February 4 for reports of a large open burn in a residential backyard, officials said.

Upon arrival, a captain found an active fire involving an outdoor dog kennel. One dog was removed immediately, and a second was safely taken out during the initial effort to knock down the flames.

Firefighters extinguished the remaining fire, and the scene was later turned over to the Manchester Township Police Department and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office for further investigation.

No injuries were reported among firefighters, residents or the animals, authorities said.
