LAKEHURST – On June 25, there will be a celebration noting the 100th anniversary of Hangar 1 and the Lakehurst base.

Lakehurst’s place in aviation history is known far and wide – but locals know the most about the ‘airship capitol of the world.’ While the Hindenburg disaster is probably the most renown, this tragedy shouldn’t overshadow a century of work and technological advancement.

The celebration will be held from 11 a.m. until noon. From noon until 3, there will be helicopters and jets on display. The USO, Red Cross, food tents, and military support groups will be on hand. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Senator Donald Norcross (D-1st), and Congressman Chris Smith (R-4th) are expected to speak.

The event is open to the public, however the security on the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is strict. In order to attend, you must first email TourNLHS@Gmail.com the following information: your full name, including middle name, date of birth, driver’s license number, and state the license is issued. Veterans with the proper base ID can come to the program.
