
LONG BRANCH — Authorities are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian on Route 36 earlier this week, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.
Police said the collision happened around 6:17 p.m. on October 27 near the intersection of Route 36 and Branchport Avenue. Investigators determined that a man was crossing from the southbound to the northbound side of the highway when he was struck by a BMW SUV.
The victim, identified as 74-year-old Fernando Pinho, was taken to Monmouth Medical Center, where he died from his injuries at 8:58 p.m. The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the county’s Serious Collision Analysis Response Team, and the Long Branch Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident.
