HOWELL – A Howell man was woken by the smell of fire on Easter Sunday when a fire erupted in his garage on Mistletoe Court in the township.

According to Ramtown Fire Company, the man sustained some injuries in the incident but the rest of his family and their dog escaped from the blaze safely.

The man, who was not identified, woke to the smell of smoke and discovered a fire in his two-car garage. His hands were injured when he broke the windows on the door of the garage in order to put out the fire with a garden house.

Ramtown Fire Company responded to the scene and was able to open the garage door and extinguish the fire before it spread to the rest of the house. The fire was put out in about 15 minutes and the home only sustained minor damage in the incident.

Howell First Aid bandaged the man’s injured hand.

According to fire officials, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation but it is believed to have started in a pile of items that was stored in the garage. It is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
