HOWELL – Howell is making way for another business as the German grocery store Lidl is expected to move into the site of the former Best Buy on Route 9 in the township.

Maurice Zekaria of Paramount Realty, former owner of the building, confirmed the sale was complete on Monday, May 6.

While the terms of the deal are not yet known, a Howell location will make five New Jersey locations for the grocery chain in addition to stores in Eatontown, Hazlet, Union and Vineland.

According to their website, Lidl first opened in 1973 in Germany. During the 1990s, the chain started branching out, expanding across Europe.

Today, they operate over 10,500 stores in 29 countries.
