LAKEWOOD – A Toms River man allegedly stole a woman’s wallet, igniting a police chase on foot Sunday afternoon.

Mark Spakowski, 48, reportedly stole the wallet and some costume jewelry from Dollar Products & More on Clifton Avenue before fleeing on foot.

Lakewood Police Officer Zachary Hart left his police patrol car and followed the man on foot. After a brief chase, the man surrendered without incident.

Spakowski was charged with obstruction of law and shoplifting. He was released on his recognizance.
