BRICK — A Brick Township man is facing numerous drug charges after police said an investigation into narcotics distribution led to the seizure of cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and other drugs from a township home.
Brick Township police said the department’s Street Crimes Unit executed multiple court-authorized search warrants Aug. 26 following an investigation into suspected drug distribution in Ocean County.
Investigators identified Charles Duffy of Brick Township as a suspected distributor of heroin and fentanyl, authorities said. Detectives located Duffy during the investigation and arrested him without incident.
At about the same time, members of the Brick Township Police Department’s Special Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at Duffy’s residence. Police said Latasha Chaneyfield, an adult woman, was also inside the home.
Authorities said officers seized approximately 189 grams of suspected cocaine and crack cocaine, 286 glassine folds containing suspected heroin and fentanyl, about 82 grams of suspected MDMA, approximately 57 grams of suspected fentanyl and roughly 29 grams of suspected oxycodone pills.
Police also reported finding a digital money counter, vacuum sealer, digital scale, suspected cutting agents, drug packaging materials and more than $2,500 in cash.
Duffy was charged with first-degree possession with intent to distribute 5 ounces or more of cocaine or crack cocaine and first-degree maintaining a controlled dangerous substance production facility.
He also faces second-degree charges of possession with intent to distribute MDMA and heroin or fentanyl, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and being a certain person prohibited from possessing weapons.
Additional charges include third-degree possession with intent to distribute oxycodone, Xanax, Tramadol and Adderall; multiple third-degree drug possession offenses; third-degree money laundering; and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Duffy was taken to the Ocean County Jail pending his first court appearance.
Chaneyfield was charged with third-degree conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute, fourth-degree conspiracy to possess heroin or fentanyl with intent to distribute, third-degree possession of heroin or fentanyl, cocaine and MDMA, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was released on a summons pending a future court appearance.
The investigation involved the Brick Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit, SERT, Patrol Division and Identification Unit.
All charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
